The Paramount Documentary Screens at Essanay Centers
A film that explores the value of culturally significant heritage buildings that are nearing extinction in every North American city will have its American debut screening on Friday, May 17th in Chicago’s historic uptown.
The Paramount follows the story of one man from a divided community as he tries to gain support to save the community cinema. The Paramount Theatre is slated for demolition, unless a plan is put in place to raise the necessary funds to purchase and revive the building. Activist Mike McDonald crosses the continent searching for answers and hoping for a new understanding of the value of culturally significant buildings.
Film producer and director Greg Hemmings is excited to have the American debut of the film at St. Augustine College, Essanay Centers for Early Film and Cultural Performance, right in the heart of Chicago’s Uptown theater district. “We had the pleasure of filming a good part of this film in Chicago, we featured the Ramova Theater in Bridgeport, the Uptown Theater and the iconic Essanay Studio, which is where the screening will take place. It will be an honor to screen my film in the very room that Charlie Chaplin produced many of his silent films.”
