Ignite!: Five-Minute Preservation Stories

Saturday, June 29: 10:15-11:45 am

Moderators: Lisa DiChiera, Landmarks Illinois (Chicago) and Suzanne Germann, Landmarks Illinois (Chicago)

Presenters: Michael Allen, Preservation Research Office (St. Louis); Eleanor Gorski, Historic Preservation Division, City of Chicago; Gary Keller, St. Augustine College (Chicago); Anthony Rubano, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (Springfield); Jack Spicer, Hyde Park Historical Society (Chicago); Frank Butterfield, Landmarks Illinois (Springfield); Amy Schachman, Partners for Sacred Places (Chicago).

Presenters are given five minutes and up to 20 slides to speak about their preservation project, issue or case study. The Ignite format is similar to the popular PechaKucha nights organized around the world. The presentations are meant to “ignite” the audience on a subject, i.e. to generate awareness and to stimulate thought, feedback and action on the subjects presented.

Learn how religious properties are economic anchors for neighborhoods, how Chicago is fighting a legal challenge to its historic preservation ordinance, about creative building conversions and reuse projects and a neighborhood’s negotiations with a university on its expansion plans.
